Cambrian Capital
Software is entering its Cambrian moment.
The Cambrian Explosion was a period of unusually active species birth. We think AI is doing something similar to software.
More products. More strange new forms. More companies reaching real shape before they need the full architecture of a traditional organization. The first mile has changed.
Cambrian Capital exists for that interval: the moment when a founder can go further than the old playbook assumed, but still benefits from capital, taste, and proximity to people who have built and exited companies before.
Current state
- Two exited founders as GPs.
- Two companies already underway.
- Up to four more funded this year.
Thesis
AI lets founders reach product truth and market truth before they scale in the old way.
That changes what an early company needs to be. Fewer people. Less ceremony. More direct contact with the work. More time spent discovering the right organism before building the full skeleton around it.
We are interested in founders who use this new leverage seriously. Not to make a smaller version of the old startup, but to build with new density, new speed, and new precision.
Who we are
Two exited founders, working close to the earliest layer.
We know what it feels like when the company around the product starts asking for skills that have nothing to do with why the founder began. We help with that layer without making it the story.
Accounting, office, HR, legal: necessary, but never the headline.
Portfolio
Some things are better named later.
Two portfolio companies already exist inside the portfolio, and they remain unnamed here for now. Early species benefit from a little darkness.
We are looking to fund up to four this year. A small number, on purpose. The point is not volume. The point is to stay close enough to matter.
For founders
If you are building in this new abundance, we should talk early.
We are especially interested in first-time founders with unusual technical leverage, a real point of view, and a preference for substance over theater.
